The Louisiana R2 School District faced a brief scare last week after police were alerted to a potential threat made toward the district. According to Superintendent Dr. Tom Ward, the Louisiana Police Department immediately investigated the situation and quickly determined that the threat was a hoax. Ward expressed his gratitude to law enforcement for their swift response and reassured families that the safety and welfare of students and staff remain the district’s top priority.



Pike County, IL residents are invited to take part in Pike County Cleanup Day on Saturday, October 11, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the Hickory Ridge Landfill Facility in Baylis, Illinois, and gives residents the chance to drop off one car or pickup load of household trash at no cost. Proof of Pike County residency will be required, and trailer loads will not be accepted. Accepted items include municipal waste, construction debris, cardboard, paper, metal, plastics, and furniture. However, hazardous materials, electronics, appliances, tires, and automotive waste will not be permitted. The cleanup is organized by GFL Environmental, which encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to help keep Pike County clean and green.



The City of Carrollton has announced that it will be flushing fire hydrants from October 6th through October 10th as part of routine system maintenance. Residents may notice temporary drops in water pressure or slight discoloration during this period, which is normal and should clear up after running the tap for a few minutes. City officials remind residents that hydrant flushing is an important process to ensure water quality and proper hydrant operation for fire protection. The City appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during this essential maintenance work.



Get ready for a delightful weekend of fall fun — Applefest 2025 in Clarksville, Missouri is happening this Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12, and it kicks off with a parade on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Local favorites will be showcased throughout the festival, including arts and crafts in the historic Apple Shed, yard sales, live music, food vendors, and even public tours of Lock and Dam 24 after the parade. B97.5 will be riding in the parade once again in the Buzzmobile with plenty of candy for the kids. It’s a great opportunity for families and friends to come out, support local vendors, enjoy community spirit, and celebrate the season together in Clarksville.

William R. “Bill” Gruner, 76, of New Canton, Illinois, passed away on October 1, 2025. Born February 11, 1949, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Bill’s career took him from the opening of the first Gucci store in Chicago to serving as a buyer for I. Magnin in California, before later managing properties in Palm Springs and retiring to Illinois. He shared 44 years with his husband, John Toumbs who survives, Bill is also survived by his sister Susan Milton, extended family, and many loved ones. Cremation rites have been accorded, and memorials are suggested to Shearer Cemetery or the Barry Healthcare & Senior Living Activity Fund.
