The Illinois Department of Transportation has released its proposed five-year infrastructure plan, outlining major projects across west-central Illinois. The most significant local investment is the $245 million replacement of the Joe Page Bridge between Greene and Calhoun counties, slated to begin in 2027. Another major Greene County project includes a $43.4 million bridge replacement on U.S. 67 south of White Hall. Pike County will see the largest total allocation—$147.7 million—for resurfacing and bridge repairs along a 29-mile stretch of I-72 between Illinois 96 and U.S. 54/Illinois 107. Northern Macoupin County will receive $35.4 million for improvements to Illinois Route 111, and Morgan County will get $480,000 for terminal rehabilitation at Jacksonville Municipal Airport. While the Florence Bridge replacement in Scott County was not listed in the updated plan, IDOT says the $160 million project remains a high priority and is expected to begin next year.
Firefighters from White Hall, Carrollton, and Roodhouse responded early Monday morning to an apartment fire in White Hall. All residents escaped safely, though one person suffered burns to their hand, and a dog was lost in the fire. The building sustained significant damage.
